I started promoting an Industry that never existed in Nigeria - Kaffy

Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known by her stage name Kaffy, is a Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and fitness coach.
Kaffy celebrated 20 years in the dance industry this year officially , it was not a sweet journey, because she started promoting an industry that never existed in Nigeria, and people didn't place any value on it.

She said in Nigeria, when you are trying to provide a service like this , they classify you as an entertainer.
As the music industry started growing in Nigeria, she saw an opportunity to sell this service.
Kaffy says if she can add value to a product, then she can also be a product that has value as well.
She said dance became an element that became a pillar for conveying and promoting music, and this triggered the birth of the dance industry in Nigeria.
When she started the dance industry in Nigeria, it was traditional and contemporary  before it crossed over to mainstream, and when it did, she was at the forefront of pioneering that area.
The Dance Industry became imperative because it placed an individual on a high pedestal in Nigeria, especially in the entertainment sector.
Now, after she broke the Guinness Book of World Records , it catapulted the idea of the importance of the dance industry.
She has been an advocate for changing the negative perception of dancers being immoral or drug abusers.
In a nutshell the entire idea of dance was pioneered by kaffy, and the idea was embraced by other practitioners,  who saw it as an opportunity they can tap into.
As a dancer, she has always been 10 steps ahead, the pandemic couldn't catch her unawares, she has been expanding and there is so much she could do.
Now, with the pandemic, she was forced to go online. So, She started exploring the online opportunities.
She says they are quite a number of women in the dance industry, and the music is centralized around women, so it's easy for women to get jobs in the dance industry.
Kaffy says the challenges she has faced so far, is acceptance , but she tries to conquer it on different levels.
In the Early days,  It was pay as you go, and then gradually she registered the dance business and got a dance studio.
She carved a niche for herself by being driven about the idea that success cannot be boxed into a career, you can be anything and become successful and honorable.
She gave a word of advice that you need to be focused and you need to know what you are doing.
